ABOUT VILLA SATI
Heralded by a grand, brick-walled entrance with a towering ‘joglo’ roof, Villa Dea Sati comprises four one-bedroom ‘villas’, a living & dining pavilion with an adjoining kitchen, and an antique ‘lumbung’ (rice barn) relaxation pavilion, leisurely spread around a freeform swimming pool. The property blends contemporary architecture and local materials such as red brick, Palimanan stone, and rustic river rock with a series of antique joglos – the traditional wooden houses of Java. The air-conditioned bedroom pavilions showcase the distinctive trapezium-shaped joglo roofs, clad in red tiles, yet gone are the dark, enclosing wooden walls in favour of floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors. This allows the light to stream in, accentuating the elaborately-carved honey-hued teakwood structures, which signify these historical buildings.
Each standalone villa at Dea Sati is built in the style of a joglo with a brick wall at the back, a terrazzo floor, and a ‘pendopo’ – the core of an antique joglo as its centrerpiece Each incorporates a spacious bedroom with sitting areas, a desk and chair, a cushioned window seat, a dressing area and an indoor-outdoor ensuite bathroom. Three have private open-air stone terraces at the front furnished with bench seats or chairs, and one has a private garden at the back. One of the bedrooms is furnished with a king bed, and the other three are furnished with twin beds that convert to king beds within a tent of netted drapes. Each is equipped with air-conditioning, a ceiling fan, a safe deposit box, a 32-inch satellite-channel TV and DVD player, and an iPod docking station. Each ensuite bathroom is partially open-air, with non-slip acid marble floors. Each is fitted with twin washbasins, a walk-in rainshower, and a toilet. The pièce de résistance in each bathroom is the freestanding river rock or terrazzo bathtub for two within a private walled garden.
Living and Dining
The open-sided living and dining pavilion is divided into a sitting area and a dining area. The sitting area is furnished with comfortable sofas, armchairs, colourful cushions, and a coffee table, plus the exciting and unusual addition of a piano. Meanwhile, the dining area is furnished with large teakwood dining table for ten, lit by glass dome hanging lanterns and accessorised with brass gongs. .
The lumbung is an antique rice barn, which now serves the purpose of a two storey relaxation pavilion or a play house for kids. The lower level is an elevated shaded platform, while the upper floor is a timber walled room accessed by a wooden step ladder, guarded by a pair of griffins and adorned with traditional kamasan-style paintings.
Positioned to one side of the dining area is a self-contained kitchen, fully equipped with an imported oven and hob, a large refrigerator, a wine cooler, and everything else that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals, in accordance with the whims of his guests.
Located within a communal area is the Dea Spa, offering an indoor treatment room with two massage beds, and an outside bed for wet treatments. This is supported by a rest area, a six-person sauna, an outdoor Jacuzzi, lockers, showers and toilets. Here, skilled therapists combine beauty and well-being with traditional treatments such as mandi lulur, reflexology, or Balinese massage designed to relax tired muscles and relieve stress while awakening mind, body and soul.
An impressive, air-conditioned, glass-fronted gym is located adjacent to the spa, sharing the spa’s facilities of lockers, showers and toilets. The gym is fully equipped with a Power Plate for acceleration training, an exercise bike, a bench, weights, a body solid multi gym and a satellite channel TV. This is a communal facility for all guests at Dea Villas.
Another communal facility, provided for kids staying at Dea Villas, is the fully equipped children’s playground, which is a rare feature at villas in Bali. Set in a walled area close to the gym, the playground presents a sandpit, a Wendy house, twin swings, a slide and a baby slide. At one end of the snaking pathway is an antique ‘bale’ pavilion, where the adults can relax on cushions while they watch over the kids.
